Where were you when 9/11 happened?

I know that this is a makeup and beauty blog, but sometimes events occur that we just can't ignore. The event that is currently on my mind is the anniversary of Sept. 11th. I'm not going to go into a long tirade about terrorism and politics, I can safely say that most people agree that what happened that day was a horrible event. Many are still morning the loss of their mother, father, son, daughter, cousin, wife, husband, and others..

Now I know that many of my current readers actually aren't from this area, therefore they witnessed what happened on TV, but I still want to know: Where were you when 9/11 happened?? Do you realize that this question will be asked over and over again through out our lifetime?? Your children/grandchildren will want to know where you were when it happened..How you felt when it happened..

For me history has always been a subject that was never easy for me to remember, and I never quite understood how so many people could remember the details of their life when tragedy struck. Since 9/11 I have been able to understand these things a little better. Even if you didn't lose someone you knew on 9/11, you did lose someone. You lost a potential friend, neighbor, wife, or husband...one of those people that passed away could have been your soul mate. So lets stop calling them those people, or that poor family. The events of 9/11 have effected us all in someway...

Where was I when 9/11 happened..?
I was in my first week of college and I was on my way to my Psych 101 class when I heard about the first plane. Like many others I thought it was an accident and I didn't realize there was anything to fear. When I did get to class our teacher excused us from class and let us have the day off. Almost the entire class went running to the dorms that have the view of the NY skyline, no sooner we get there do we see the 2nd plane hit. It was the scariest thing I have ever seen. I don't remember anyone screaming or yelling..just total silence as we all stood there is shock. Like everyone else I called my family and friends to make sure that they were all ok, and they were. I will spare you the other details of what I saw that day, but like most other people I was glued to my TV for the rest of the week.

Where were you when 9/11 happened..??

EDIT: My best friend just emailed me a speech that he just presented about 9/11 at work, I thought I would share it with all of you too.

Today, marks the 7th anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy. Once again today we remember with heavy hearts the nearly 3000 victims who perished as a result of the attacks not only of our home but on the foundations of our freedoms.

We remember, too, with respect and awe those who climbed stairs into fire risking all and those who searched the ruins for survivors, working past their own strength until all hope was exhausted.

Let us honor those who are prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice to defend our freedom and show our support for those among us who have the courage to make that faithful choice.
Let us manifest our common purpose by renewing our commitment to this nation and, above all, to the values for which it stands.

Together, on this somber day, we think back with sadness, we draw strength from each other and we look ahead with hope. We will always remember!

Let us respectfully bow our heads in a moment of silence now to those who lost their lives that day.

  1. beautiful speech!!
I was also a freshmen in college and we were in class Integrated Studies.
In the middle of the class, we were excused. I went back home and the T (i lived in Boston) was so packed that they left everyone go for free!

they were saying that Boston was going to be the next target and everyone was panicking.....

the following week, there were discussions everywhere about the events

  2. that was wonderfully said.

i was home when 9/11 happened but had just flown back to san francisco from jfk 2 days before the tragedy. seeing it on the tv was too surreal for me to believe that it had actually happened.

my heart goes out to everyone on this day of history.

Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless.
