Last week the hubby & I went out on a mission to find dinner. For those of you that don't know..I live in Northern NJ, which in many ways is the exact opposite of NY. There are a ton of restaurants, but the majority of them are big chain restaurants (TGI Fridays & Applebees) or they close SUPER early. The hubby & I just don't do dinner at a normal time..ever!! This makes finding a good dinner a bit of a project. Last week we only tried 2 places before we found a place that was 1. NOT a chain restaurant 2. that was actually OPEN!

We ended up at Cafe, Cafe Latin Cuisine - Yelp Reviews here.

The place is really small, but it has a comfy & relaxed feel to it.

I swear the kitchen must have been around the size of the one in my place, this restaurant is so small.

Our appetizer - chorizo & plantain chips. According to the hubby the chorizo needed to be 'done' a little more, it was still very yummy though.

The hubby's meal - rice & pork chops in guava sauce with tostones. I have NO idea how this was because I refused to eat anything, but my meal..

My meal!! Lomo saltado!! Just looking at this picture makes me so hungry!! You know how everyone has their own comfort food or go to meal that makes them happy..?? This is it for me! I rarely get this. I find that very few people make this properly, but when I do get it  - I devour it!!

So what is it...??

Wikipedia definition -  Lomo saltado is a Peruvian entree that has Asian influences (chifa) consisting of strips of sirloin marinated in vinegar, soy sauce and spices, then stir fried with red onions, parsley and tomatoes. Served traditionally over white rice with homemade french fries.

Don't you just love it when restaurants surprise you & turn out to serve AMAZING food?!?!
